Happy Birthday, Pop-Pop!
A very Happy Birthday to my dad, Bill (and my kitties adpoted Pop-Pop)! My dad loves all of our cats, but he really seems to be taken with our cat, Haley. So today hubby and I, with Haley in toe, visited my parents to celebrate my dad's 79th birthday!
We all had a wonderful little dinner after which Haley spent the rest of the day cuddling next to my dad on his favorite chair. Needless to say, my dad adores her ...
(My parent's poodle Brandi giving kissses to Haley)
(Enjoying a little "cat nap" after dinner ~ LOL!)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Cat Owner's Prayer
THE CAT OWNER'S PRAYER
Because I'm only human
It's sometimes hard to be
The wise, all-knowing creature
That my cat expects of me.
The wise, all-knowing creature
That my cat expects of me.
And so I pray for special help
To somehow understand
The subtle implications
Of each proud meowed command.
To somehow understand
The subtle implications
Of each proud meowed command.
Oh, let me not forget that chairs
Were put on earth to shred;
And what I like to call a lap
Is actually a bed.
Were put on earth to shred;
And what I like to call a lap
Is actually a bed.
I know it's really lots to ask
But please, oh please, take pity;
And though I'm only human,
Make me worthy of my kitty!
But please, oh please, take pity;
And though I'm only human,
Make me worthy of my kitty!

Raw Meat for Cats: Good or Bad?
Recently, the subject has come up in our household regarding how healthy it is to give cats "raw meat." Actually, it was suggested by a good friend of mine to use raw chicken to catch our rather elusive outside kitty cat.
According to the vet, the answer to this quandry is "Good." Raw meat, although repulsive to most of us, is very healthy for cats. It is good for their teeth and overall fitness. They can even eat bones so long as they are NOT cooked or microwaved, etc. The reason for this is simple. When bones are cooked in any fashion, it changes their density. Cooked bones are very hard and brittle and will without a doubt either puncture your cats stomach or cause them to choke!
Further, you should never feed your cat raw meat and kibble (cat food) at the same time nor close together. Cats digest raw meat very quickly unlike kibble which takes cats a few hours to digest. Therefore, feeding them kibble too soon after giving them raw meat can be extemely risky as the raw meat gets digested quickly so the bacteria does not have enough time to become a hazard to the cat. Mixing both the kibble and the meat togehter will only slow their digestive system down, causing the actual risk of the cat getting sick!
I, myself however, would certainly never presume to debate these medical facts. After all, who am I to argue with Mother Nature? Apparently, she knows what She is doing!

A funny little story ...
If any of you have been following my other blog, "The Wiccan Life," you know that my hubby and I are attempting to rescue a little black stray kitty who has been hanging around our yard and whom we have been feeding on a nightly basis for about three weeks now.
We decided to try to catch him with our Have-A-Heart trap in order to bring him (or her for that matter) in out of the bone-chilling winter weather and, Goddess-willing, give him a really good home.
Last night my hubby cracked the garage door open a tad so that he could set up the trap and feed the cat. From our garage door window in the kitchen, he saw something which looked very much (from our angle atleast) like the tail and butt of a black cat. So he runs over to me, tells me to look (and this DID look like the tail-end of a cat, mind you) and for the next twenty minutes or so, we sat around trying to decide whether we should try to approach him without scaring him away as he "seemed" to be just standing behind the garage door not moving and trying to get out of the cold wind.
I finally decided to quietly open the inside kitchen door and it was then that I realized that what we were seeing was not a cat at all ~ it was actually a black snow shovel which was standing upright along the wall! Duh, right? LOL!!!!
Anyway, no kitty as of this morning, so we will patiently wait in hopes of catching this fella!!!
